sometimes a simple lunch disappoints ..

A man gets hungry, a nearby restaurant provides, a menu is offered and perused, a little wine poured while he reads –  a pinot noir – the waitress hovers.

Things are looking good. Hunger is like sex. It needs  attention.

Today the menu advertises a Caesar Salad and we nod our head in salute to  Caesar Cardini who is credited with the creation and this is what we hope for, all carefully prepared and respectively plated.

Thusly and according to the creator, we expect the following.

Where the kitchen finds a large ceramic bowl and fills it what we wish are the following ingredients ..

  • Romaine or Cos Lettuce
  • Olive oil.
  • Crushed garlic.
  • Salt.
  • Dijon mustard.
  • Black pepper.
  • Lemon juice.
  • Worcestershire sauce.
  • Anchovies (white).
  • Raw or Coddled eggs (plural)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Croutons.

This is what I hoped for today, being a man of tradition and trust in the knowledge of restauranters and their chefs.

The Caesar was thusly ordered – the waitress smiled, noted the order on her little book and departed.

Sometime later the meal was transported to the table. Room was made for the width of the dish ..

which contained ..

  • Cos Lettuce
  • One Raw or Coddled egg.
  • Five pieces of grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Six bone-hard croutons.

$35.00

Then my credit card payment PIN failed.
