Andy C has been a regular here for some time, something I’ll always be grateful for as I was when Scott Dillon and Mrs Barry Magoo came by on occasion.
Then there was the the Brunswick dentist who gave me Ray Young’s phone number years ago. Imagine, me speaking to that man, one of my earlier life’s great influences and here he comes aged about 90 creaking his old bones down the stairs after his wife had yelled at him that someone from about sixty years ago was on the phone wanting to talk to him, the fellow who built balsa surfboards for us boys so many years past.
So, given that I reckon I owe it to Andy because he misses Bondi more than most. Next to me.
The problem with AC is that he’s buggered when it comes to computers and suchlike, the old lad DOESN’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO TURN THE BLOODY CAPS OFF !!
But nevermind.
There’s a website you see, a surf camera that’s on twenty-four hours a day and it has a range of Sydney beaches on live cover, including Bondi. Day and night.
Now, blokes like Jenkins and Red Ted, plus me and probably our Nightingale brother might think it worthy to organise Andy C with a smart TV braced onto his living room wall tuned into a live Bondi 24 hour surfcam website.
Every day, day after day, onshore and off, good and bad .. Bondi … just like he’s looking out of his window at the real thing, because it is the real thing.
If all it takes is a few quid to organise someone to set it up for him over there in the islands then count me in ..

You want us to kick the tin for AC who will be visiting Bondi next month. Very generous thought Pete, except Andy would want the main coverage being on what struts the Prom where he once was famous for hanging out and strutting in a manner that has never been equalled…
As for Ray Young…..didn’t he fix dings in a tree house off Wellington St. and make the young Gremmies stand waiting for an hour or so before he looked up, and then growled. Scary times for young blokes …..but a great era, never to be repeated !!!!
The Avalon camera is well placed and perhaps a couple of the locals weren’t too happy to see it installed. By the looks of it’s fixed onto the surf club roof and I’m thinking a few of the old lads who troubled me for taken pics of Av for Realsurf twenty years ago are now members. How’s the irony?
