Had to step out to the local supermarket for a packet of pasta this afternoon, Bonelli number 7, tonight we cook it up with olive oil, basil, tomato and garlic, a little shredded padano, crusty French loaf, special.
It’s a quiet street and a man can stroll up to the shop in the middle of the road and here comes a couple of boys on bikes, kids about 12, local, swooping down the road towards me when one of them has a word as he passes me by, right into my left lughole.

Alone now, her children across the water, grandchildren almost forgotten but for the photos taken thirty years ago, the one great grandchild, a boy, now fifteen and she’s yet to hear his voice or see if there is any resemblance in him to her husband .. perhaps he has big ears, his ready smile. Those happy years.
