Constructed using the hospital’s water and power. Constructed by tradesmen, tunnellers, electricians, medical staff, underground mining equipment suppliers, explosive experts, kitchen staff, plumbers, labourers, carpenters, pharmacists, engineers, doctors, architects, miners, food suppliers, builders, concreters, tilers – underground tunnels so extensive the disposal of the thousands of tons of waste would have involved fleets of heavy duty vehicles working day and night, day after day, year after year.
The costs of such a long-term project recorded, billed, paid for, finance made available. Businessmen involved, accountants, clerks, banks. International banks. Financiers. Politicians.
