sustainable

Eddie works the servo counter on weekends, an easy enough job he says, much better than being out in the weather and $27.50 an hour isn’t bad for Ballina these days.

Eddie watches the old boy pull in, open his car door, get out and grab the petrol hose. He’s smiling at something over by the wall and when he comes in to pay he asks Eddie if he knows what sustainable means.

‘Buggered if I know, ‘sez Ed, ‘something that doesn’t wear out?’

’What about sustainable firewood then?’

Eddie looks a little harder at the old man, sees mischief in his eyes.

’You tell me.’

’Means it doesn’t burn.’
